Bây giờ thì mời qúy vị đọc thêm một nhận xét của một cựu chiến binh Hoa Kỳ từng tham chiến tại VN về quân đội VNCH ( South Vietnam= ARVN: Army Public of VN= quân đội VNCH)và quân cộng sản ( PAVN: People Army of VN=Quân đội nhân dân VN= quân Bắc Việt) trong một thread của một forum đề cập đến chiến tranh VN.

Despite popular belief, the South Vietnamese did have some excellent individual units; ARVN Rangers, ARVN Special Forces, RVN Marines, RVN Navy SEALS, and some of the ARVN airborne units were just as good as their counterparts in our military. They performed very well at An Loc, Ban Me Thout, Xuan Loc, Easter '72, Cambodia '70, etc. Even our own guys in the Pentagon were suprised at how well they performed in the 1972 Easter Offensive.

As for the PAVN, there is nothing willing about human wave charges and chaining your own troops to their trucks and armored vehicles. They won only due to the weight of numbers (the typical Commie bodies vs bullets strategy). They were decimated in Tet '68 and lost everything they seized. Like the US and RVN forces they were also mostly conscripts.

Villard, Một cựu quân nhân trong chiến tranh VN, bây giờ là sử gia trong ban Quân Sử của Lục quân Hoa Kỳ, viết lại chuyện phản công của môt Trung Đoàn thuộc sư Đoàn 1 BB VNCH và Tiêu Đoàn 9 Dù VNCH được không quân Hoa Kỳ yểm trợ đề tái chiếm làng Trí Bửu thuộc tỉnh Quảng Trị bị Tiểu Đoàn 814 VC chiếm đóng trong trận chiến Mâu Thân 1968 . Việt công định luà các người già; đàn bà và con nít trong làng ra làm bia đỡ đạn để ngăn sức phản công của VNCH. Nhưng dân làng trốn thoát hết. Chúng nó đành phải xích các công chức và tù binh VNCH vào gần các ổ súng phòng không của chúng nó với hy vọng ngăn cản các cuộc không kích của đồng minh, dĩ nhiên, vì không có chổ để ẩn nấp, các nạn nhân công chức và tù binh VNCH bị chúng nó xích gần các ồ súng đều chết hết.

As the troops from the 1st Brigade landed in the enemy=s support zone, South
Vietnamese troops from the 1st Infantry Regiment and the 9th Airborne Battalion
organized a series of counterattacks along the eastern and southern edges of the
capital. After U.S. Air Force fighter-bombers pummeled the 814th Battalion sheltering in
Tri Buu on the eastern edge of the city, a battalion from the 1st Infantry Regiment
assaulted the village at 1330. Fortunately there were relatively few civilians left in Tri
Buu. Earlier that day, the Communists had herded all the women, children, and old men
into a group and then told them to organize a demonstration in the city to protest the
destruction of Tri Buu. Predictably, the villagers had fled to safety as best they could
once they had left the village. As for the able-bodied men, civil servants, and captured
soldiers in Tri Buu, the Viet Cong chained them to objects near their heavy weapons in
the vain hope of discouraging allied air strikes. Unable to seek shelter, many were killed
in the subsequent fighting.

HUE, South Vietnam, Feb. 16 (Reuters) - Allied officers said today that three North Vietnamese soldiers had been found here, chained to a machine gun and left to die defending their position.
The three men were shackled around the ankles to the stock of a Chinesemade light machine gun. They held their position with other enemy troops for two days in a school until they were overrun yesterday by the South Vietnamese Fifth Marine Battalion.
The allied officers said the chained men were all privates. The men were barefoot and their bodies riddled with bullet holes.
›They were little men, same size as me,‹ a South Vietnamese marine only 5 feet tall said.
Maj. Paul Carlsen of San Clemente, Calif., an adviser with the South Vietnamese marines, said the chain binding the men to their gun was like a heavy dog chain and had links about half-an-inch wide.
The Machine gun, which has a circular magazine and is commonly used by both North Vietnamese and Vietcong troops, can be operated by one man. It was apparently intended that after the first man was killed the two others would operate the gun until all three were dead.«, NYT 17.2.1968.

4.5 Pilots in Military Region II

5.Mua Chue was a smart T-28 pilot with good decision-making skill and warm friendship toward his peers, very keen at performing his duties, and a pilot that shot targets more accurately than many other pilots. At one point in August 1972, the Second Division led by Col. Geu Vang moved to Lath Sene to liberate the Plain of Jars. He called pilots Mua Chue and Vang Bee to help because so many enemy troops were stationed on the nearby mountain. Vang Bee was the first to land; with Mua Chue and Yang Bee providing cover. As soon as Vang Bee landed, anti-aircraft shells were sprayed over him, forcing him to take off. Mua Chue called him and said, “Look at me and see how it works.” He then flew up as high as possible –around 10,000 feet or more– then flew vertically down around 8,000 feet above the enemy position, and dropped all six bombs in one trip. Two anti-aircraft guns were completely destroyed. Vang Bee and Yang Bee did exactly the same. They dropped all their bombs as well. The other two antiaircraft guns were destroyed too. The ground troops later occupied the position and saw the dead bodies of many North-Vietnamese Communists. Four of them were chained to their 14.6 mm anti-aircraft guns, with no way to run away from the bombs.

Lần naỳ xin mời bà con coi một đoạn trong cuốn sách nói về đất nước Việt Nam của Martin Scott Catino, Ông ta mô tả chính quyền cộng sản VN đã từng chỉ trích chế độ tư bản, nay lại rước kinh tế tư bản vào Việt Nam, theo kiểu nghịch ngạo trong chiến tranh trước kia. Để khẳng định là lính Bắc Việt có tinh thần chiến đâu cao, sẵn sàng vào Nam VN để đánh đổ bọn có văn hoá đồi trụy và phong kiến bằng cách nhồi sọ để cho những người tài xế xe tăng CS đó phải tự nguyện xích thân mình vào những chiếc xe tăng.
Đường lối nghịch ngạo này. Tác giả gọi đó là thuyết âm dương hiện đại của CS VN ( the " ying and yang " of modern Vietnam). Trong hình vẽ của thuyết âm dương có hai phần trắng đen, có nghĩa là tác giả muốn ám chỉ bọn CS VN nói ngược nói xuôi sao cũng được, hoặc là nói xuôi nhưng mà làm ngược lại. Thay đen đổi trắng .Nói thì trắng nhưng làm thì lại đen .Chửi tư bản nhưng dùng đường lối kinh tế của tư bản .Nói lính Bắc Việt có tinh thần chiến đâu cao nhưng chúng phải xúi họ tự xích chân vào xe tăng. Nói miền Nam VN có văn hoá đồi trụy và phong kiến nhưng hành động xích lính của chúng vào xe tăng thì sao ?

Down we went; bullets flying everywhere…. most at us. We opened fire and in seconds, we stopped because the firing stopped. As expert marksmen, we hit our target.

Success? Well, not really. Now, we were in for another surprise. As we approached the gun site, we were stunned to see an old lady, dead and chained to the machine gun. We had killed her!

The villagers told us that the Cong chained her to the gun and told her if she did not fire, they would kill her family. That was the kind of crap we were up against, and I could not get it. I just could not understand. I stood motionless, sweating, my heart pounding near out of my chest, my ears ringing, a tear in my eye.
Here I was, a nineteen year old far from home, my biggest tryst a school yard fight, and now… a dead old lady? It could have been my mother or grandmother.
My fellow Marines were also stunned. We resumed our walk, now with a heavy pace and heavy hearts.
My angel may have protected us; her angel protected her family, I guess. And what about her? Where was her angel?

Dân làng nói với chúng tôi rằng bọn Cộng Sản xích bà ta vào súng, và bảo bà ấy nếu không bắn nhau, chúng nó sẽ giết hết cả nhà bà ta.................... ........
