NVA soldiers were found chained to their heavy machineguns

    Bài viết:Battle of Hue Citadel

    http://www.tbs6-67.com/3/miscellaneous14.htm

    Trích đoạn:
Instead of the make-believe combat town at The Basic School, 2dLt Leo Myers from Alva, OK found himself in the ancient city of Hue, the third largest city in Vietnam with a population of 140,000 people. More than 5,000 NVA troops comprising 16 battalions had taken over the city on the second day of Tet, on 31 January 1968. For 12 days 2dLt Myers led his 1st Platoon, H/2/5 Marines in the bloody street-by-street fighting against an enemy that was so fanatical that some NVA soldiers were found chained to their heavy machineguns to ensure that they would not flee against the attacking Marines. 2dLt Myers would be the second classmate to be awarded a Silver Star for his heroic actions on 11 February 1968.

Napalm finally eliminated the threat. "When we finally reached the machine gun, we discovered it was a .50-caliber, probably stolen from us or the French," Hackett explained. "Also, the VC manning it was an old man who had been chained to it."

The platoon awoke March 16 to the sounds of a massive firefight in the distance. The brigade's 2nd Battalion had been surrounded by a reinforced North Vietnamese Army regiment and was being attacked from all directions. Young Vietnamese boys of 15 or 16 were chained up .

    Bài viết :WAR AND SOCIETY - ( PART 4 - VIETNAM )

    http://www.britishpathe.com/record.php?id=81633

    Trích đoạn:

Another soldier talks about military manoeuvres. He seems to be talking about a recent successful ambush. He compares the action to a John Wayne movie - "they just kept charging, they just kept getting killed." A black soldier in uniform talks of how young Vietnamese boys of 15 or 16 were chained up, they "looked like animals, cattle or something."

    Snipers tied to 100-foot-tall trees

    Bài viết:Clark Welch
    Reluctant hero
By Lou Gonzalez - The Gazette

    http://www.coachwyatt.com/clarkwelchgazette.htm

    Trích đoạn:

    The slaughter lasted two hours.
It wasn't until Welch returned to Vietnam in January 2000 that he learned the troops had wandered between entrenched Viet Cong positions.
Snipers tied to 100-foot-tall mahogany trees and hidden in bunkers and thick brush were armed with rifles, machine guns and grenade launchers.
    There were three battalions.
With a signal from their Viet Cong commander -- he clicked sticks together three times -- all 1,400 Viet Cong opened fire at once on the thin column of 142 American soldiers.
