Military equipment bound for Ukraine is "for repair and maintenance": Vietnam

HANOI, July 24 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam on Thursday said that its shipment of military equipment bound for Ukraine and seized by Finnish Customs is "for repair and maintenance."

Le Hai Binh, spokesperson of Vietnam's Ministry of Foreign Affairs made the remarks at a regular press briefing Thursday in capital Hanoi while responding to a reporter's inquiry over the information that Finnish Customs have seized a Vietnamese shipment of missile components bound for Ukraine.

Finnish media earlier reported that the shipment was seized at the end of June at Helsinki airport.
"According to Vietnamese authorities, the shipment contains military equipment transported to Ukraine for repair and maintenance within the framework of traditional defense cooperation between Vietnam and Ukraine. The activity is completely normal in accordance to international law," Binh said.

"Vietnamese authorities are currently working with relevant authorities to resolve issues related to customs transit procedures in Finland," he said.

Ngày 24/7 trong cuộc họp báo ở Hà Nội, Người phát ngôn Bộ Ngoại giao Lê Hải Bình nói: "Các cơ quan chức năng Việt Nam cho biết đây là lô hàng thiết bị quân sự được mang đi sửa chữa, bảo dưỡng trong khuôn khổ hợp tác quốc phòng truyền thống giữa Việt Nam và Ukraine".
Ông Bình bác bỏ có gì khuất tất trong lô hàng này.
"Việc làm này là hoàn toàn bình thường theo đúng luật pháp và thông lệ quốc tế.”
