    Victoria, Australia: Đánh dấu 35 năm định cư Cộng Đồng Người Việt Tỵ Nạn

    Buổi tiếp tân của vị Thủ Hiến Victoria. Sau khi t́m cách đào thoát khỏi "thiên đường cộng sản" bằng mọi giá, Người Việt Tỵ Nạn đă có mặt hầu như ở khắp mọi nơi trên thế giới, từ những quốc gia đầy ánh sáng văn minh cho đến những vùng đất xa xôi c̣n hoang dă.

    Ngày nào, lúc mới được định cư, Người Việt Tỵ Nạn c̣n tan tác, đau thương với bao nhiêu mất mát, đổ vở ... để rồi hôm nay đây, mặc dầu là những người đến sau, tới muộn, đă tạo dựng được một Cộng Đồng lớn mạnh trong số các Cộng Đồng sắc tộc đă có mặt lâu đời.

    Sự lớn mạnh và thành công vượt bực của Cộng Đồng Người Việt Tỵ Nạn đă làm cho CSVN phải muối mặt, cúi đầu, nhổ đi liếm lại - từ "phản động trăm chiều" đổi thành "khúc ruột ngàn dặm" và nay trở thành "Việt kiều hải ngoại"!

    Và sự lớn mạnh này đă được chính quyền địa phương của các nước sở tại trân trọng công nhận. Riêng tại tiểu bang Victoria, Úc Châu, vị Thủ Hiến, ông John Brumby đă cho tổ chức một buổi tiếp tân để mừng cho Cộng Đồng, đánh dấu 35 năm định cư của Người Việt Tỵ Nạn.

    Trong số những người được mời, ngoài những gương mặt thân thương và quen thuộc trong Cộng Đồng c̣n có rất đông quan khách Úc là những người đă từng gắn bó với Cộng Đồng trong bao năm qua.

    Khai mạc buổi tiếp tân, người MC ông George Lekakis (Chủ Tịch Ủy Ban Đa Văn Hoá Victoria - Chairman of Victoria Multicultural Commission) đă giới thiệu cùng cử tọa ban hợp ca của trường tiểu học St. Albans East, gồm các em học sinh từ lớp 3 đến lớp 6, do bà Hiệu Trưởng Ann-Maree Kliman, cô Senka King (Phụ Tá Hiệu Trưởng), cô Lil Petruccelli (Giáo Viên), và cô Tina Nguyễn (Giáo Viên) hướng dẫn. Để mở đầu chương tŕnh, các em, trong bộ quốc phục áo dài, khăn đóng và áo tứ thân, đă hát hai bài Quốc Ca Úc-Việt: Advance Australia Fair và Thanh Niên Hành Khúc. Thật dể thương làm sao và cảm động biết bao khi ban hợp ca có cả các em người Úc và các sắc tộc khác đă cùng ca bản Quốc Ca VNCH (bằng tiếng Việt).

    Vị Thủ Hiến tiểu bang Victoria, ông John Brumby, trong bài diễn văn chào mừng đă không ngớt lời ca ngơi sự lớn mạnh, thành công và nhất là những đóng góp lớn lao trên mọi lănh vực của Cộng Đồng Người Việt Tỵ Nạn. Vị Thủ Hiến cũng đă đề cập đến cuốn sách "The Boat" của Nam Lê và giới thiệu đến với Cộng Đồng một gương mặt rất trẻ cô Jennifer Tan vừa mới được bổ nhiệm làm Ủy Viên cho Ủy Ban Đa Văn Hóa Victoria như là những sự thành công tiểu biểu của thế hệ thứ hai. Là những thế hệ tiếp nối, các con em chúng ta đă vươn lên từ những hy sinh, chịu đựng, thiệt tḥi của các bậc ông bà, cha mẹ thuộc thế hệ thứ nhất như là những viên gạch lót đường cho các con em bước đi, hướng đến tương lai tươi sáng, rạng rỡ và hạnh phúc.

    Để đáp lời vị Thủ Hiến, ông Nguyễn văn Bon (Chủ Tịch Cộng Đồng Người Việt Tự Do Victoria) đă ngỏ lời tri ân đến với chính phủ và người dân Úc đă mở rộng ṿng tay đón mừng và cưu mang Người Việt Tỵ Nạn chúng ta trong suốt bao nhiêu năm qua. Để ghi nhận công sức đóng góp và vinh danh những người đă hết ḷng hổ trợ, giúp đở Cộng Đồng, một tấm bảng ban khen đă được trao tặng cho các vị sau đây:

    - Bác Nguyễn Khắc Nhân
    - Dân Biểu Luke Donellan
    - Dân Biểu Murray Thompson
    - Dân Biểu Bruce Mildenhall
    - Ông John Filmer (Cựu Chiến Binh Úc), và
    - Ủy Ban Đa Văn Hoá Victoria Sự Vụ (Victoria Multicultural Commission) do cô Jenny Tan đại diện nhận lảnh.

    Cho dầu là khác màu da, không cùng tiếng nói, văn hoá, tập tục có những sắc thái riêng biệt, nhưng khi chúng đă chọn một đất nước làm mẩu quốc thứ hai, sống chung hài hoà với người dân bản xứ và các sắc tộc bạn, được tôn trọng và đối xử b́nh đẳng trước pháp luật th́ chúng ta đă nghiễm nhiên trở thành con dân của đất nước sở tại. Là những công dân của một đất nước Tự Do, Dân Chủ và Nhân Bản, (không phân biệt chủng tộc) chúng ta đều có bổn phận và trách nhiệm đóng góp, xây dựng đất nước Úc mổi ngày một vửng mạnh, tốt đẹp và an toàn hơn. Và thật là ư nghĩa, khi các em (trong ban hợp ca) đă cất tiếng hát bài "We are Australian" để nhắc nhở cho chúng ta những điều đó -

    .....
    We are one, but we are many
    And from all the lands on earth we come
    We share a dream and sing with one voice:
    I am, you are, we are Australian. .....

    Cuối cùng để đánh dấu 35 năm định cư tại Úc Châu nói chung và tại tiểu bang Victoria nói riêng ông Nguyễn Thế Phong (Chủ Tịch Cộng Đồng Người Việt Tự Do Liên Bang Úc Châu) đă trao cho vị Thủ Hiến một tấm tranh làm quà lưu niệm để bày tỏ sự biết ơn đến với chính quyền Victoria. Một tấm tranh với h́nh ảnh đau buồn trong quá khứ của một con thuyền vượt biển đang ch́m dần xuống biển sâu để tương phản lại với h́nh ảnh hiện tại của những con dân gốc Việt (đang đứng nơi đây) vui tươi, hạnh phúc và hănh diện với cuộc sống mới!

    • First of all on behalf of the Vietnamese community in Victoria, I would like to pay respect to the traditional owner of the land, both the past and the present, the Wurundjeri people.

    • The Honourable John Brumby, The Premier of Victoria

    • Mr. Ted Baillieu, Leader of the opposition

    • The Honourable Jame Merlino, Minister for Sport, Recreation and Youth Affairs, Minister Assisting the Premier on Multicultural Affairs.

    • All Member of Parliament from states and federal.

    • Mr Phong Nguyen, President for the Vietnamese community in Australia.

    • Leaders and representatives from organisations and associations.

    • Representatives from the media.

    All members of our community and our fellow Australian.

    On behalf of the Vietnamese community in Victoria, we would like to especially thank you the Premier of Victoria for hosting the Premier Reception to mark the Vietnamese 35th year settlement in Australia and in particular Victoria.

    I would also like to thank all Parliamentarians from all parties for putting the political differences aside and spending your valuable time with us here tonight in marking this significant event. Again, on behalf of the Vietnamese community in Victoria we are both honoured and privileged to receive this reception.

    We would like to pay special “thank you” to our former Prime Minister of Australia, the right Honorable Malcolm Fraser and his government for making the decision to welcome the Vietnamese refugees for resettlement in Australia.

    We would like to thank you:

    - The federal & Victoria Governments (past and present)

    - All Local governments

    For your good policies and programs which makes it possible for the Vietnamese refugees resettlement in Australia and Victoria. We are particularly thankful for the education we received.

    We would like to thanks VMC for their supports.

    We would like to thank you Australian organisations such as Red Cross, Salvation Army, St Vincent de Paul and so on who helped the Vietnamese refugees on countless occasions with our resettlement.

    I am particularly thankful to the RSL for being a wonderful & supporting friend to our community.

    From the bottom of my heart, I am particularly thankful to our fellow Australian for: welcoming us with warm arms, for your generosities, your kindness, for treating us with respect and provide us with equal opportunities.

    On this special occasion I also would like to thank you all our fellow Vietnamese refugees, particularly generation 1 for working extremely hard to make our resettlement possible.

    I would like to thanks all Vietnamese religious groups, organisations and associations that work tirelessly and together to ensure that the Vietnamese refugee’s resettlement is a success. Your volunteerism and your contributions of time that have helped to build this community of ours together and are much appreciated, I am so proud of you!!!

    In relation to volunteerism I would like to thank you all volunteers that contribute their time to building this community together. The volunteering works are well respected.

    I would like to thank all the past and present executive members for your leadership for your precious time which has helped to build & hold this community together. I would like to acknowledge Mr Phong Nguyen for serving 10 years an executive member.

    We are thankful for opportunities that we received from the governments, our fellow Australian and the contributions from our parents (generation1) not only has it been a successful resettlement, it also a stepping ladder for younger generation to achieve higher in education and advance into areas such as: science, business, commerce, law, art, etc…

    While we have many successes in those areas we would encourage our younger generation to participate in the Australian’s political arena.

    Lastly, after 35 years of Vietnamese refugee settlement, the opportunities and the training we received from this great nation and state had made us expertise in many areas, we and the future generations are ready to carry on the legacy and achievements from our older generation that could benefits many others.

    We are honoured and proud to be Australian.
