[CENTER][B][COLOR="#FF0000"]“Chia tay Thương xá Tax”?[/COLOR][/B]

“Thương xá Tax” của Sài G̣n xưa[/CENTER]
Sau ngày Sài G̣n “đổi chủ”, Thương xá Tax cũng được “đổi đời”! Nhu cầu mua sắm của người Sài G̣n được thay thế bằng “hệ thống bao cấp nhu yếu phẩm” của nhà nước cho nên sự nhộn nhịp của một trung tâm mua sắm ngày nào nay không c̣n lư do để tồn tại. Tax biến thành nơi trưng bày mặt hàng sản xuất của các công ty quốc doanh.
Đến năm 1978, Tax được “cởi trói” và “hóa kiếp” thành “Cửa hàng Phục vụ Thiếu nhi Thành phố”. Người bán hàng, khi đó được gọi là “Mậu dịch viên”, lại “thắt khăn quàng đỏ” như thiếu nhi để bán mặt hàng chính là đồ chơi cho trẻ con được sản xuất bởi các công ty quốc doanh.
Đến năm 1981 Tax một lần nữa đổi tên thành “Cửa hàng Bách hóa Tổng hợp Thành phố” trực thuộc Sở Thương Nghiệp và trở thành một trong những cửa hàng lớn nhất Việt Nam thời bấy giờ. Tax khi đó mang cái tên thật lạ lẫm, vừa dài vừa khó nhớ đối với người Sài G̣n nên trong suốt thời gian từ 1981 đến 1990 người ta vẫn dùng cái tên cũ: “… đi lên Tax”… “mua cái này ở Tax…”.
H́nh như nhà nước cũng ư thức được “Thương hiệu Tax” đă ăn sâu vào nếp nghĩ của người dân nên ngày 19/1/1998 ḍng chữ “Thương xá Tax” chính thức được đặt trên nóc ṭa nhà! Thế là sau bao nhiêu năm “lận đận”, ṭa nhà được “phục hồi danh hiệu” đă có từ xưa.
Đọc đến đây chắc hẳn có bạn đọc thắc mắc tại sao bài viết này lại mang tựa đề “Chia tay Thương xá Tax”?
Nếu chú ư theo dơi báo chí trong nước ta sẽ hiểu ngay v́ sao sẽ phải chia tay. Báo Tuổi trẻ, ngày 20/8/2014, đưa tin trong một bài viết có tựa đề “Tiểu thương Thương xá Tax “chết đứng”:
“Việc thương xá Tax thông báo kết thúc hợp đồng thuê mặt bằng kinh doanh tại đây trước ngày 1/10 đă khiến các tiểu thương than “chết đứng”. Trong khi đó khu vực kinh doanh trên đường Nguyễn Huệ (Q. 1, TPHCM) bị ảnh hưởng bởi việc xây nhà ga metro cũng kêu trời khi việc kinh doanh bị ảnh hưởng nghiêm trọng”.
Trên Thanh niên Online, tác giả Trần Thùy Linh sau khi nhắc lại việc “xóa sổ” khu vực Passage Eden đă viết:
“… Và mấy hôm nay, có một nỗi đau tưởng đă lên da non, bỗng bùng lên, dữ dội, khi nghe tin thương xá Tax sẽ vĩnh viễn bị xóa sổ. Tôi tin rằng những “vô tri, vô giác” ấy, những “vật cần phải hy sinh cho sự phát triển” trên khu đất vàng ấy, đă đau lắm. Một cao ốc 40 tầng hiện đại, sáng choang sẽ mọc lên, thay thế cho Tax già nua cũ kỹ đã 134 tuổi. Khu trung tâm Sài G̣n sẽ c̣n ǵ?”

Kiến trúc sư Nguyễn Ngọc Dũng trong bài viết “Sài G̣n đang trở nên xa lạ” đưa ra nhận xét mang tính cách chuyên môn:
“Với một diện tích khiêm tốn vài trăm ha, trung tâm Sài G̣n vốn được quy hoạch thành khu trung tâm hành chính và công cộng nay lại đang được nén chặt đến mức ngộp thở. Sài G̣n xưa giờ đang trở thành đô thị của một nước xa lạ nào đó, những bản sắc vốn có và hồn đô thị của thành phố 300 năm tuổi đang bị xóa nḥa.
Liệu bạn có c̣n t́m được nét Sài G̣n xưa ở những cao ốc mang tên nước ngoài như Royal Garden, Eva Royal Plaza, Avalon, Sailing Tower, Centec Tower hay Kenton Residence, Gemadept Tower, The Manor? Cái tên Sài G̣n cũng được nhắc tới nhưng lại rặt một nét lai căng, ví như Saigon Sky Garden, Saigon Plaza…”
