Sinh ra và lớn lên ở Sài Gòn, trong đầu lúc nào cũng có một ý định là sẽ “thở đều” trên mảnh đất ồn ào này
Gọi là yêu Sài Gòn thì có phần hơi quá! Không dám gọi thứ tình cảm dành cho Sài Gòn là tình yêu, nó chưa thể đạt đến mức ấy. Cái tình với Sài Gòn là cái tình của một thằng ăn ở với Sài Gòn hơn 20 năm, cái tình của một thằng mà với nó, Sài Gòn còn quá nhiều điều níu kéo, quá nhiều chuyện để mỗi khi bất chợt nghĩ về Sài Gòn, lại thấy nhơ nhớ, gần gũi…
Hồi còn đi học, vẫn hay chọc mấy đứa bạn bằng 2 câu thơ nhại :

Chuyện con gái Sài Gòn "mỏ" có cong không thì hông biết, chỉ biết con gái Sài Gòn có cái dẫu môi cong cong dễ làm chết người lắm, nhất là khi cánh môi be bé ấy cong lên một chữ "hônggg…" khi đứa con trai rủ rê đi đâu, năn nỉ gì đó. Lúc đó, lấy gương ra soi, chắc cái mặt của đứa con trai đó tội lắm.

Mà con gái Sài Gòn có điệu đà, õng ẹo chút thì mới đúng thiệt là con gái Sài Gòn. Ai mà chẳng biết vậy.
Gọi đó là cái duyên ngầm của người con gái đất Gia Định cũng chẳng có gì sai. Ai hiểu được sẽ thấy sao mà yêu mà thương đến vậy…
Có dạo đọc trong một bài viết về Sài Gòn – Gia Định của nhà văn Sơn Nam , có thấy ông viết giọng Sài Gòn, cũng như văn hóa và con người Sài Gòn là một sự pha trộn và giao thoa đến hợp nhất của nhiều nơi.
Đó là những người Chăm bản địa, những người khách Hoa, những người miền Trung đầu tiên đến đất Gia Định…Từ đó hình thành một loại ngôn ngữ vừa bản địa, vừa vay mượn của những người đi mở đất…
Giọng người Sài Gòn được xem là giọng chuẩn của miền Nam, cũng như giọng người Hà Nội được xem là giọng chuẩn của người miền Bắc. Giọng chuẩn tức là giọng không pha trộn, không bị cải biến đi qua thời gian.
Như nói về giọng chuẩn của người Hà Nội, người ta nói đến cái giọng ấm nhẹ, khi trầm khi bổng, khi sắc khi thanh, và chẳng ai phủ nhận người Hà Nội nói chuyện rất hay và “điêu luyện”. Cái “điêu luyện” ấy như thuộc về bản chất của người Hà Nội mà chỉ người Hà Nội mới có được.
Nếu nói là người Việt Nam nói như hát, thì đúng ra chỉ có người Hà Nội là “nói như hát” mà thôi, họa chăng chỉ có giọng Huế của người con gái Huế trầm tư mới cùng được ví von thế…
Người Sài Gòn thì khác, giọng Sài Gòn cũng khác. Không ngọt ngào …mía lùi như một số người dân Tây Nam Bộ ven vùng sông nước mênh mang chín rồng phù sa, không nặng nề cục mịch như người miền Đông Nam Bộ nóng cháy da thịt, giọng người Sài Gòn cũng ngọt, nhưng là cái ngọt thanh hơn, nhẹ hơn.
Đó là chất giọng “thành thị” đầy kiêu hãnh của người Sài Gòn, chẳng lẫn vào đâu được mà dù người khác có bắt chước cũng khó lòng.
Dường như qua nhiều năm cùng với đất Gia Định – Sài Gòn phù hoa trong nhịp sống, trong đổi mới và phát triển, thì giọng nói của người Sài Gòn cũng trở nên “cao sang” hơn.
Dù vậy, có cái “thanh” của một vùng đất một thời là thủ phủ Nam Bộ, nhưng cũng chẳng mất đi đâu cái mộc mạc không bỏ được của cái gốc chung Nam Bộ.
Giọng người Sài Gòn nói lên nghe là biết liền.
Ngồi nghe hai người Sài Gòn nói chuyện cùng nhau ở một quán nước, bên đường hay qua điện thoại, dễ dàng nhận ra họ. Cái giọng không cao như người Hà Nội, không nặng như người Trung, mà cứ ngang ngang sang sảng riêng…
Mà điều đặc biệt trong cách người Sài Gòn nói chuyện cùng nhau là mấy từ “nghen, hen, hén” ở cuối câu… Người miền khác có khoái, có yêu người Sài Gòn thì cũng vì cách dùng từ “nghen, hen” này.
Khách đến nhà chơi, chủ nhà tiếp. Khách về, cười rồi buông một câu
“-Thôi, tôi dìa nghen!”
– Chủ nhà cũng cười “Ừ, dzậy anh dìa hen!”.
Nói chuyện điện thoại đã đời, để kết câu chuyện và cúp máy, một người nói “Hổng còn gì nữa, dzậy thôi hen!”
“thôi” ở đây nghĩa là dừng lại, kết thúc, chấm dứt gì đó.
Hai đứa bạn nói chuyện cùng nhau, bắt gặp cái gì vui, quay đầu sang đứa kế bên “Hay hén mậy?” bằng giọng điệu thoải mái…
