Truyện vui : Bác Quẹt nhà ta lên Saigon đi xe Bus

Xe chạy được một đoạn người bán vé hô to :
-Nguyễn đ́nh Chiểu... xuống ... xe bus từ từ ngừng lại và có một người khách đi xuống .
Xe tiếp tục chạy ,vài phút sau bác Quẹt lại nghe :
- Đ̣an Thị Điểm ... xuống ,xe lại ngừng và có người bước xuống
Cứ thế bác Quẹt nghe liên tục :
-Phan đăng Lưu ...xuống...
-Hai bà Trưng ... Xuống ...
-Nguyễn thị Giang ... xuống ...
-Ngô gia Tự ... xuống ...
-Lê thánh Tôn ... xuống ...
Cứ thế mà tiếp tục hành tŕnh .
tới tối khi xe về băi đậu ,người bán vé ngạc nhiên khi thấy bác Quẹt vẫn c̣n ngồi trên xe :
-Sao bác c̣n ngồi đây ?!!!
-Thằng mắc dịch từ sớm tới giờ mầy có kêu tên tao đâu mà tao biết đường mà xuống !!!
-Trời !!!

Ngôn ngữ Sài Gòn xưa: Những chữ vay mượn
Có thể nói, bất kỳ một ngôn ngữ trên trái đất này cũng đều trải qua hình thức vay mượn từ các ngôn ngữ khác. Ảnh hưởng về văn hóa là một trong những tác động chính trong việc vay mượn về ngôn ngữ. Ngoài ra, còn phải kể đến các yếu tố khác như địa lý, lịch sử, chính trị và xã hội trong việc hình thành ngôn ngữ vay mượn.
Miền Nam nói chung và Sài Gòn nói riêng vốn là một “melting pot”, dễ dàng hòa nhập với các nền văn hóa khác từ tiếng Tàu, tiếng Pháp và cuối cùng là tiếng Anh.
Trước hết, xin được bàn về ảnh hưởng của Trung Hoa mà ta thường gọi nôm na là Tàu cùng những biến thể như Người Tàu, Ba Tàu, Các Chú, Khách Trú và Chệt hoặc Chệc. Gia Định Báo (số 5, năm thứ 6, phát hành ngày 16/2/1870) giải thích:
“…An-nam ta kêu là Tàu, người bên Tàu, là v́ khách thường đi tàu qua đây, lại dùng tàu chở đồ hàng hóa qua đây buôn bán; nên kêu là Tàu, hàng Tàu, đồ Tàu v.v...
Từ Ba-Tàu có cách giải thích như sau: Ba có nghĩa là ba vùng đất mà chúa Nguyễn cho phép người Hoa làm ăn và sinh sống: vùng Cù Lao Phố (Đồng Nai), Sài G̣n-Chợ Lớn, Hà Tiên, từ Tàu bắt nguồn từ phương tiện đi lại của người Hoa khi sang An Nam, nhưng dần từ Ba Tàu lại mang nghĩa miệt thị, gây ảnh hưởng xấu...”.
“…Kêu Các-chú là bởi người Minh-hương mà ra; mẹ An-nam cha Khách nên nh́n người Tàu là anh em, bằng không th́ cũng là người đồng châu với cha ḿnh, nên mới kêu là Các-chú nghĩa là anh em với cha ḿnh. Sau lần lần người ta bắt chước mà kêu bậy theo làm vậy...”.
“…C̣n kêu là Chệc là tại tiếng Triều Châu kêu tâng Chệc nghĩa là chú. Người bên Tàu hay giữ phép, cũng như An-nam ta, thấy người ta tuổi đáng cậu, cô, chú, bác th́ kêu tâng là chú là cậu vân vân. Người An-nam ta nghe vậy vịn theo mà kêu các ảnh là Chệc ...”
Cách giải thích thuật ngữ nói trên của Gia Định Báo từ thế kỷ thứ 19 được coi là tạm ổn vì đây là một trong những tài liệu xưa có xuất xứ từ miền Nam. Theo Lê ngọc Trụ trong Tầm nguyên Tự điển Việt Nam, chệc hay chệt là tiếng Tiều gọi chữ thúc, nghĩa là “em trai của cha”. Người b́nh dân gọi Chệc để chỉ chung người Hoa.
Người Quảng Đông cho là gọi như thế có ý miệt thị, người Triều Châu trái lại, chấp nhận v́ họ được tôn là chú. Ở miền Nam, “các chú” Quảng làm ăn buôn bán khá hơn “các chú chệc” người Tiều lam lũ trong nghề làm rẫy, tằn tiện nên không biết có phải v́ vậy mới có câu:
Quảng Đông ăn cá bỏ đầu
Tiều Châu lượm lấy đem về kho tiêu!
Người Tiều lại chê dân Quảng không biết ăn cá. Họ nói món cháo cá Tiều khi ăn có vị ngọt đặc biệt nhờ chỉ rửa sạch bên ngoài, giữ lại nguyên si vảy, đầu và cả ruột! Dân Tiều ở miền Nam “chuyên trị” những món cá chim hấp, ḅ viên, tôm viên, ruột heo nấu cải chua... và nhất là món hủ tíu Tiều Châu.
Người ta còn dùng các từ như Khựa, Xẩm, Chú Ba… để chỉ người Tàu, cũng với hàm ý miệt thị, coi thường. Tuy nhiên, có sự phân biệt rõ ràng trong cách gọi: phụ nữ Tàu được gọi là thím xẩm còn nam giới thì lại là chú ba.
